A Return to Nature

  • Zorn Park Tent Between Main & Bay west of State Street Harbor Springs, MI 49740 (map)

The “back-to-the-land” initiatives, when anyone could ostensibly begin an agrarian lifestyle, may now be a halcyon dream. The current “return-to-nature” movement of the zeitgeist encompasses everything from global conservation efforts to public policy funding. But individuals have been turning to nature forever. The women of Fierce Country were rafting, skiing, and advocating before it was hip to do so. In The Language of Trees, these majestic plants have influenced thinkers and artists from Plato to Radiohead. And, as any angler knows, casting a streamer can be a religious experience. Whatever keeps us coming back, let’s hope nature is always there to welcome us.
