We have all read a book where the main character shows no growth—emotional, spiritual, or intellectual. It’s a disappointing experience and largely unrealistic (though, we also probably all know someone who refuses to grow up!). Transformation is a natural part of moving through life, and that process goes hand-in-hand with the resolve to change. As much as it may comfort us to believe at times that we are merely flotsam riding the waves, we make choices every moment of every day that influence our trajectories. How we end up where we end up is what makes the getting there—and these stories—so rewarding.
