Employing distinctive narratives, our presenters examine past events to bring truth to unresolved accounts or find meaning in painful histories. In 1990, Earl journeyed the Appalachian Trail, emerging as an enthusiastic outdoorsman, though haunted by the murders of two fellow hikers. Decades later, he reprises his trek, discovering that we tiptoe near death more often than we realize. Virgil Wounded Horse, David’s likable antihero, has little choice but to acknowledge past injustices—from colonization to the legacy of Native boarding schools—to solve a recent homicide and to contend with his own violent tendencies. Both find answers, but not without some scars along the way.
